Tarrant County Housing Partnership, Inc. is currently accepting resumes for an Internship Program for the Homebuyer Counseling and Education Department.

Duties will include:

Education and Counseling Services (Firsttime Homebuyers, Credit counseling, Foreclosure Prevention, etc.)

Initial point of contact for clients seeking Homebuyer

Maintaining client information and files.

Entering client data and information into CounselorMax software program (training available)

Taking reservations for classes and workshops.

Setting individual client appointments with counselors.

Assisting clients in completing initial intake applications.

Work with clients to gather required documentation.

Assist counselors with maintaining client communications, records and reporting.

Tutor adults in literacy skills within a small group setting.  Training provided.

Children’s Tutor and Activities Volunteer

Provide homework help and assist with crafts and activities for children 12 years and younger while their parents are participating in the adult literacy program.  Training provided.

Wednesday and Thursday evenings

 

Helpline Volunteer

On the phone, provide emotional support, problem-solving assistance, and referrals to people in difficult situations.  Training provided.

Two hour shifts during day, Monday – Friday

 

Rape Crisis and Victims Services Volunteer

Provide peer counseling and emotional support to sexual assault survivors at area hospitasl and on the Rape Crisis & Victim Services Hotline.  40 hours of training required.

Six hour on-call shifts available 7 days a week

AmeriCorps*VISTA Member-2 Dallas/Fort Worth Openings

A AmeriCorps*VISTA member will support the efforts to assist people with disabilities find and secure accessible, affordable, and integrated housing in times of crisis and in times of need to support independence. The Dallas and Tarrant County projects will work to overcome barriers presented by the lack of housing opportunities for people with disabilities – more recently laid bare by the crisis caused by Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita.

 

Join the Access Housing for Persons with Disabilities Project sponsored at the state level by United Cerebral Palsy of Texas in Austin and locally by Easter Seals North Texas in Dallas/Fort Worth.

 

Please note these are not full-time staff positions but one-year AmeriCorps volunteer positions starting July 2008 through July 2009.

 

Specific duties include:

1. Provide outreach activities to people with disabilities to assess their housing needs and address any additional challenges due to relocation or lack of community supports.

2. Gather information on the available housing in each local community and assess the accessibility and affordability and capture data on barriers and solutions.

3. Research, analyze and prepare recommendations for housing initiatives that can address the lack of housing opportunities and develop applications for funding support that will enable the projects to serve as models for other communities to replicate.

4. Develop initiatives, grant requests and fundraising activities to achieve support and continuation of the local projects.

 

Terms: Requires full time service without outside work/education commitments

Service Area: Community Outreach, Housing, Hurricane Katrina

Do you want to help individuals with HIV/AIDS? Like to learn new marketable skills? TCAIN operates a non-profit Dental Clinic for HIV individuals. Needed a Front Desk Volunteer - 1 day a week between 4 and 6 hours each to work in busy Dental Office. Care teams

Teams of 2 to help out our clients that need assistance around their homes to do small errands, assist them to their doctor’s appointments, taking them to the grocery store, etc.

Buddy Teams

Volunteers that would like to help our clients and enjoy time with them, do outings to the park, zoo, movies, etc.  Some of our clients to not have transportation, or family support.  Our clients need someone to talk to at times. 

Physician Lecture Series Servers

- 3rd Thursday of the month at local church
Help set up and serve food to participants attending lecture.
Approximately 2 hours 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

 Rocky Top Therapy Center

Rocky Top Therapy Center is an equine assisted therapy center, in Keller, Texas, specializing in hippotherapy and therapeutic riding for individuals with special needs. Volunteers are needed on October 12 and 13 to help with our biggest fundraiser, The Great Trail Drive and Dinner Dance to be held at the Fort Worth Stockyards and River Ranch. Various positions during the day and evening are needed to help with setup, serving lunch, cleanup, decorating for the Dinner Dance, and helping with the Live Auction and Big Board. Come join the fun and help out a great cause.

Boys and Girls Clubs
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth has seven branch sites located throughout Fort Worth, which offer daily educational, recreational, social and cultural enrichment programs and activities for youth ages 6-18. Each Club serves an average of 250 youth each day. Club sites are purposely and permanently located in the "heart" of at-risk inner city areas. SUEÑOS SIN LIMITES (DREAMS WITHOUT LIMITS) 

 Our bilingual outreach program provides a variety of services to Hispanic victims and their children. This is a rapidly growing program, and the need for volunteers is greater than ever. Bilingual volunteers assist staff in meeting the needs of these clients. Children’s Support Group Assistance: Help Hispanic children who have experienced family violence, set up materials and games, dispense snacks and drinks and assist children with planned activities.

  • Volunteer times: various.
  • Translator: Translate brochures, administrative forms and children’s educational materials. This can be done at home.
Partners Together for Health

Partners Together For Health, the foundation for JPS Health Network, yearns for a talented, hard-working volunteer one day a week who doesn’t mind depleting stacks of filing (must know alphabet A-Z), sorting mail (must be able to read), running errands (must be directionally empowered), and other miscellaneous office-related tasks (hole punch, staple, collate and other exciting pastime tasks).   • Volunteer for Adult Vision Screenings: Must attend certification class and be able to lift 25 lbs. After completing training volunteer will be certified to do screenings at health fairs in the greater Fort Worth area.
  • Volunteer Data Entry: Must be computer literate, able to type 35 wpm accurately and be available to work approximately 3-5 hours a week.

Therapeutic Foster Care
Foster Parents Needed: Provide temporary and permanent placement for children ages 0 - 17 who have behavioral and emotional difficulties.  Therapeutic foster parents support abused and neglected children by providing a safe environment and serving as mentors and positive role models.  All volunteers receive specialized training and on-going 24 hour support.

Trinity Habitat for Humanity
Building homes and hope in partnership with God’s people
  • Construction Volunteers: Build new single-family homes Wednesday through Saturday.  No previous experience is necessary.
  • Lunch Crew Members: Provide food, beverages and paper products on the build site Wednesday through Saturday. 
  • Volunteer Services Assistants: Assist Habitat’s volunteer manager at main office in Fort Worth. Requirements include a commitment to volunteer at least one day each week for at least four hours per shift Monday through Saturday, good organizational and computer skills. Tasks may include the following: answer phones; data entry; filing; assist with mailing projects; record volunteer hours.

ReStore Assistants
Assist in a Habitat ReStore, a retail outlet selling new and used building materials and supplies to the public. Both the North and South Fort Worth ReStores need volunteers Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Store revenue helps Trinity Habitat build houses for hard-working, low-income families and individuals. Community Hospice of Texas
Community Hospice of Texas, a non-profit, is currently seeking compassionate individuals who want to work with the terminally-ill and their families.  Our volunteers are integral part of our hospice program.  They provide a variety of services to hospice patients.  Some volunteers sit with the patient, simply being there to listen and offer companionship. This time provides the family member a chance to go to lunch, run errands or a chance to rest.  Other volunteers run errands for the family, process grief with them or provide bilingual support.  Still other volunteers choose to work in the office providing clerical help.  All that is needed is a caring heart.  Everything you need to know will be taught in training sessions, beginning March 21st.

Northside Inter-Church Agency

Retail Assistants: NICA Northside Inter-Church Agency has opened a new resale shop to help support our programs and services. We need volunteers to assist in the store 4 hours per month.  This is a great activity for a group of two or three friends. Duties are to sort donated clothing and household goods, set up displays, assist customers in finding what they need. Hours and days can be arranged with Casey, the store manager.  Store hours are 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM Tuesday through Saturday.
