POSITION Behavior Interventionist
PROGRAM School-Based Services
SUMMARY
The purpose of the School-Based Services Program is to provide support to elementary-aged Special Education students who are currently receiving services in a FWISD Behavior Improvement Classroom (BIC). The responsibilities of the Classroom Interventionist include: providing therapeutic support in crisis situations, working in partnership with the BIC teacher, conducting specialized groups and activities, meeting with families to discuss classroom behaviors and interventions, and coordinating with members of the FWISD Psychological Services Department, and maintaining ongoing relationships with other FWISD staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Assistance in implementing the classroom token economy system.
2. Working in partnership with the BIC teacher, teaching assistant and assigned FWISD psychological staff.
3. Conducting assessments and making appropriate referrals as needed.
4. Arranging for outside counseling services when needed.
5. Assisting and participating with mainstream transitioning when needed.
6. Participating in wraparound teams as necessary.
7. Providing one on one skills training.
8. Development and implementation of action and transition plans in conjunction with FWISD staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Masters degree in mental health or related field from an accredited university and 2 years experience working with emotionally disturbed children or a combination of education and experience is required.
2. Experience in group facilitation and therapeutic interventions is preferred.
3. Knowledge of community resources is required.
4. Must have reliable transportation, a current Texas driver’s license and evidence of auto liability insurance.
5. Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
WORK HOURS AND LOCATION
Regular office hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. This position will require coordinating work time to coincide with the FWISD academic year and school hours and may require work outside of traditional business hours. The work location is the Catholic Charities office at 249 West Thornhill Drive in Fort Worth, Texas. However, the employee will travel to different locations in FWISD.
