VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

All Church Home for Children values volunteer support and offers a variety of opportunities for volunteers to assist in the fulfillment of our mission to protect children and preserve families. 

Professional Photographer(s) – Take photographs of our foster families after welcoming a new family member and ACH special events.  Photographer(s) should have their own equipment and are required to release rights of all photos files to ACH.  On an as needed basis.

Safe Place Representative – Give 45 minute presentations about the Safe Place program in primarily middle and high school classrooms.  Presentations include: two Safe Place videos; pre and post surveys about problems students might face at home and their knowledge of the Safe Place program; talking with students about issues they face; explaining Safe Place on a local and national level, distributing Safe Place cards and answering questions.  For more information on Safe Place, please visit www.safeplacesforkids.org.  Training provided.

Safe Place Site Monitor - Perform site checks and complete reports for Safe Place ensuring that signage is visible and employees/ managers are aware of Safe Place procedures.  We provide the questions.  You provide the car.  Flexible schedule.

Street Outreach Volunteer – Accompany Street Outreach staff to visit youth.  Visits include activities such as tutoring, assisting with job applications, or going for ice cream.  Volunteers may be asked to assist with community health/information fairs.  Volunteers for this assignment must be 18 years old.  Weekday afternoons.

Youth Activities Volunteer – Plan and participate in activities, (educational, crafts, games, sports) with the children of a group home.  This position requires the greatest personal commitment.  Most evenings 4:00 – 6:00 pm or Saturdays.  Minimum commitment of 30 hours annually.

After-School Tutor - Provide after-school tutoring and help children and youth with homework. Monday-Thursday, 3:30-4:15 p.m. (K-2nd), 4:15-5:00 p.m. (3rd-5th), 5:00-6:00 p.m. (middle school, high school, or extra tutoring hour).  Minimum commitment of a semester or school year.

 

Reading Buddy* - Help a child improve upon his/her reading skills by providing encouragement and assistance as you read and explore books together.   Minimum Weekly Six Month Commitment

 

Life Book Creator – Use your creative talents to decorate the covers of “Life Books” for the children of our Foster care and Adoption programs.  Supplies provided or donations gladly accepted.  Flexible / At home.

GED Tutor – Assist teens in our Transitional Living Program with studies and preparation for their GED examinations.  A flexible schedule is very helpful. 

Office Assistant – Provide office assistance with filing, copying, mailings, compiling training manuals and returning phone calls.  Flexible.  Weekdays, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. 

Supper Club Volunteer - Provide a weekly meal for a Residential Group Home allowing children and their families to attend skill building and family strengthening activities.  Volunteers may bring in restaurant purchased food (e.g. pizza) or prepare food onsite provided by ACH (the latter will require a one hour Food Handler’s Training provided by the Health Department ($16).  Dinner by 6 pm.  Weekday evenings.

 

Landscape Cleanup - Pull weeds, trim bushes and clear light brush at our Broadway, Wedgwood, or Wichita locations. This can be an ongoing project, or a one-day group project. ACH has limited access to gardening tools, trimmers, etc. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own tools.

Maintenance Project Volunteer – Help us save funds by helping out with projects such as vacuuming and washing our company vans, organizing the food bank, washing windows, painting caution areas, and cleaning projects.

Donations Program Volunteer - Coordinate an off-campus donation or collection drive. Personal hygiene products, school supplies and new socks and underwear in all sizes are but a few of our regularly-needed items. You can serve as a one-time donor or a point of contact for an organization willing to receive a list of our current needs.

1. Volunteers must be 16 years old or accompanied by an adult volunteer. 

2. Some volunteer opportunities may require background checks and drug/TB screenings. 

3. We regret we cannot accept court ordered community service volunteers due to licensing requirements.
